Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Stanel Group, Dr Stanley Uzochukwu, has described the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Flutterwave, Olugbenga Agboola, as a “global asset”, citing the fintech firm’s expansion across multiple continents.
Uzochukwu made the remarks while fielding questions from journalists during Flutterwave’s 10th anniversary gala held at The Delborough Lagos.
The event brought together political figures, business leaders and stakeholders from the technology and finance sectors to reflect on the company’s decade-long growth trajectory.
Flutterwave has disclosed that it has processed transactions valued at over $50 billion across markets, including the United Kingdom, the United States and several African countries since its establishment in 2016.
Commenting on the company’s international footprint, Uzochukwu said Agboola’s leadership has significantly contributed to Nigeria’s representation in the global financial technology ecosystem.
“Agboola has made notable strides in the global financial space,” he said, adding that African entrepreneurs who attain global scale should receive institutional support from both industry and policymakers.
He further stated that leaders who drive innovation and economic visibility for the continent should be recognised for their contributions.
“GB should be protected as a national treasure by African political and industry leaders,” he added, referring to the ‘GB’ nickname of the Flutterwave CEO.
Uzochukwu also explained the rationale for hosting the event at The Delborough Lagos, a luxury hospitality brand under the Stanel Group portfolio.
According to him, the venue seeks to position itself as a meeting point for business leaders and policymakers.
“At The Delborough, our vision is to provide world-class hospitality for leaders who are shaping industries and the future of our country,” he said. “Hosting this gala night with Flutterwave enables us to do what we are best at, creating a space where meaningful business relationships can be built, ideas can flow, and excellence is experienced at every touch point.”
Fintech milestones increasingly serve as networking platforms for cross-sector collaboration, particularly as Nigeria’s digital economy continues to expand.
Flutterwave’s anniversary event is part of a broader wave of fintech-sector reflections as companies mark growth milestones amid heightened regulatory scrutiny and global expansion.
The event drew prominent figures, including former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Sierra Leonean President Ernest Bai Koroma, and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Also present were the Chairman of MTN Nigeria, Ernest Ndukwe, and the founder of Stanel Group, Dr Stanley Uzochukwu.
