Dr Andrew Eigbedion Sports Festival

The second edition of the Dr Andrew Eigbedion Annual Sports Festival for medical students of the College of Medicine, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, has concluded after nine days of thrilling sporting activities.

The festival, which commenced on February 6, came to an end on Saturday, February 15, 2026, featuring male and female football competitions as well as indoor games including chess, table tennis, snooker, checkers, ludo and ayo.The highlight of the festival was the final male football match between the MED 2016 and MED 2017 sets.

The MED 2017 team emerged victorious, defeating their senior counterparts 3–1 after an intense 90-minute encounter marked by high-quality football.In the female football category, Team Hepzibah clinched the title, with the team captained by the AAUMSA Vice President, Miss Esther Aima.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Andrew Eigbedion, sponsor of the sports festival and Staff Adviser to the Ambrose Alli University Medical Students’ Association (AAUMSA), expressed satisfaction with the impressive turnout of students and the keen interest shown by members of the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital community, including residents and staff, who attended as spectators.

He also expressed gratitude to the Chief Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer of ISTH, Reuben Agbons Eifediyi, for making the hospital’s sports field and conference hall available throughout the week-long event.Dr Eigbedion further commended the AAUMSA President, Comrade David Ohiwerei (popularly known as D’Brand), alongside members of his executive council, for what he described as their giant strides since assuming office.

Special commendation was also given to the AAUMSA Director of Sports, Comrade Daniel Omoruyi, for the smooth organisation and success of the festival.
