JCI Ibadan Elite has launched a Go-Green Eco-Gardening Initiative aimed at promoting climate consciousness, sustainable living and household food production among its members and the wider community.
The initiative, unveiled on February 15, 2026, during the organisation’s February business meeting in Ibadan, is part of its Deepening Roots, Elevating Excellence and Possibilities agenda (DREEP).
The Oyo State Commissioner for Agriculture who was represented by Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Funke Adeniran-Adediran, stressed the importance of sustainable agriculture and household food security.
She noted that small-scale home gardening could help families supplement their food supply and contribute to environmental sustainability.
“As food prices continue to fluctuate, encouraging households to grow vegetables and herbs at home can improve nutrition and strengthen food resilience,” she said.
President of the organisation, Ibukun Otesile, said the initiative seeks to move beyond symbolic environmental advocacy to practical, measurable action.
According to her, the goal is to cultivate indigenous vegetables, herbs and ornamental plants while building a network of eco-gardeners committed to sustainable living.
Chairman of the Go-Green Eco-Gardening Initiative, Johnson Olaoluwa, said the next phase would focus on expanding participation and strengthening partnerships to enhance impact.
He added that the group intends to track outcomes, including participation rates and produce yield, to assess the initiative’s contribution to advancing the SDGs.
