Police deny arrest of viral assault victim in Ogun

THE Ogun State Police Command yesterday dismissed reports circulating on social media that the victim in a viral sexual assault video, Mirabel, had been arrested.

The command clarified that she reported at the Ibafo Division on Wednesday, stating that the alleged incident occurred in the Ogijo area of the state.

Mirabel, a TikToker, had last Sunday posted a video alleging that a stranger broke into her apartment while she was unconscious and assaulted her. She also claimed to have received threats from the attacker and disclosed that she attempted suicide following the incident.

Although some government agencies in Lagos initially responded, it was later established that the alleged assault took place in Ogun State.

Amid claims online on Wednesday and in the early hours of yesterday that she had been detained over alleged inconsistencies in her account, the command’s spokesman, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, refuted the reports.
He said she was taken for medical assessment and subsequently transferred to the Ogijo Division, which has jurisdiction over the area where the incident reportedly occurred.

“At Ogijo, it was confirmed that she was not in a stable condition to provide further details. She was immediately taken for a comprehensive medical check-up, and her health is being closely monitored, as her wellbeing remains paramount,” he said.

The police stressed that at no time was she arrested and urged the public to verify information through official channels before dissemination.
