The Oyo State Fire Service Agency has successfully contained a petrol tanker fire at Langbe Village along the Iseyin/Ibadan Road, preventing a potential disaster and saving properties worth millions of naira.
According to the agency, the incident was reported at exactly 16:48 hours by a caller who alerted officials to a petrol tanker that had fallen and caught fire. Alhaji Easy, the caller, reportedly provided details that enabled the fire service to respond promptly.
Upon receiving the alert, fire personnel led by Chief Fire Superintendent (CFS) Banuso immediately mobilised to the scene, arriving within minutes of the report. On arrival, they found the tanker fully engulfed in flames.
“The officers launched a coordinated attack using foam chemical compounds, successfully preventing the tanker from exploding,” the agency said in a statement. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded, and the timely intervention safeguarded both lives and valuable property. The fire appliance returned safely to the station by 21:20 hours and remained on standby for further emergencies.
Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, commended the officers for their swift response, professionalism, and effective coordination during the operation. He also used the incident as an opportunity to remind motorists about the dangers of reckless driving, especially for drivers of heavy-duty vehicles carrying flammable substances.
Dr. Akinwande reiterated the importance of road safety measures and the installation of fire extinguishers in vehicles and homes to contain fire incidents at an early stage. “Prompt response and preventive measures remain key to averting larger disasters,” he said, emphasising that every citizen has a role to play in fire prevention and safety.
