The Chairman, Ojodu Local Council Development Area, David Olusegun Odunmbaku, has partnered security agencies; Police, NDLEA, DSS, Neighborhood Watch, DSS, Civil Defence Corps and Legionnaires to combat the menace of drug abuse within the council.
At its security meeting, Odunmbaku sought for the cooperation of security agencies, religious leaders and traditional rulers in tackling drug abuse among youths.
He lamented the negative effect drug abuse is having on the youths adding that with a combined efforts of the council and security agencies, drug abuse will be nipped in the bud.
He said his administration has put in place sensitisation programmes centred around educating youths on the need to abstain from drug abuse.
Odunmbaku also said his administration is set to regulate the activities of the Point of Sales, POS operators for the safety of the people.
He noted that over a thousand POS operators who operate within the council must be digitally registered with the council as well as display their approved POS stickers at their business areas.
“Anywhere there’s no POS sticker, people should not transact business there,” Odunmbaku warned.
The NDLEA Area Commander for Ojodu/Berger, Jibo Sanusi said the agency has discovered laboratories in Lagos where some of the substance being abused are produced in large quantities.
“Everybody must support NDLEA because many youths don’t know the repercussions of what they take. Religious leaders and traditional rulers have lots to do, they can’t just leave the fight in the hands of enforcement agencies alone, “Sanusi said.
Sanusi added that the government has embarked on sealing of hotels where illegal substances are found, lamenting that wealthy individuals are behind the sales of drugs.
The Divisional Police Officer, Elizabeth Opadola called for the collaboration of the Community Development Associations in providing information that could lead to the arrest of drug peddlers in the neighborhood.
