IT is a great mistake for believers in the new covenant to think they cannot overcome the things saints of old like Moses and David fell prey to. The complaint of people in the old covenant was that the world was very bad. The negative, defiling and sinful influence of the people around them was so strong and it had effect on them. But the things they did not see, observe or understand are provided for us to escape “the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
Also, we are saved, sanctified and baptised in the Holy Ghost in a measure that nobody in the old covenant had, and we have gifts of the Spirit and power. Beyond these, we can now look at “the glory of the Lord” and be “changed into the same image” as His.
Apostle Paul was caught up into paradise where he heard things he could not tell anyone when he came back from glory. No one in the old covenant ever had similar experience. Although God took Enoch and Elijah to heaven, they did not come back to continue their ministry.
For those who love God, “He hath prepared for them a city.” Christ says: “I will come again, and receive you unto myself, so that where I am, there ye may be also.” This is the reason believers are eager and passionate to run the Christian race. We know that God has prepared a place for us that others cannot see or understand.
What “hath God prepared for them that (do not) love him?” Sinners do not love God. They are in darkness and it has not entered into their hearts that He has prepared something for those who do not love Him, who reject Christ as Saviour, His salvation and do not love His word or want to repent from their sins. He “repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them.”
He has prepared sorrow, sadness, suffering and calamity for them. On the judgment day, they will be cast “into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.” We must make up our minds and make a choice to believe on the Lord Jesus, in order to be saved and enjoy everything Christ has provided at Calvary.
Jesus has provided the fullness of the blessings of God for us. However, only the Spirit of God, who searches all things and enlightens us, can reveal what God has provided. Therefore, to know what belongs to us, we must have the Spirit of God in us. “Now, we have received, not the spirit of the world (or the spirit of the age), but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.”
