The Benefits Of Adoration (cont)
The Race of Faith(Heb 12)
“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith,” (Heb 12:2)
In our race of faith we look to Jesus as:
1. Our example of trusting God (2:13), of commitment to His will 10:7-10; Mk 14:36), of prayer (5:7; Mk 1:35; Jn 17), of overcoming temptation and suffering (2:10; 4:15), of enduring loyalty to the Father (vv.2-3), and of seeking the joy of completing the work to which God has called us (v.2; cf. Luke 15:6,24,32; John 15:11).
2. Our source of strength, love, grace, mercy and help (4:16;7:25;10:22; Rev 3:21).
Heb 12:1-4, The Christian life involves hard work. It requires us to give up whatever endangers our relationship with God, to run patiently, and to struggle against sin with the power of the Holy Spirit. To live effectively, we must keep our eyes on Jesus. We will stumble if we look away from him to stare at ourselves or at the circumstances surrounding us. We should be running for Christ, not ourselves, and we must always keep him in sight.
“Christ In You, The Hope Of Glory” (Col 1:27)
God’s secret plan is “Christ in you, the hope of glory”— God planned to have his Son, Jesus Christ, live in the hearts of all who believe in him — even Gentiles like the Colossians. Do you know Christ? He is not hidden if you will come to Him.
Christ living in us is our assurance of future glory and eternal life. Only His indwelling and our continual intimate communion with Him can dispel any doubt about obtaining heaven. To have Him is to have life (cf.Rom 8:11; Eph 1:13-14; 1Jn 5:11-12)
Jesus Promises Rest For The Soul
“Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29: Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30: For My yoke is easy and My burden is light,” (Mat 11:28-30).
Jesus’ gracious invitation comes to all who “labour and are heavy laden” with the troubles of life and the sins of their own human nature. By coming to Jesus, becoming His servant and obeying His direction, He will free you from your insurmountable burdens and give you rest, peace and His Holy Spirit to lead you through life. What trials and cares you carry will be borne with His help and grace (see Heb 4:16).
A yoke is a heavy wooden harness that fits over the shoulders of an ox or oxen. A person may be carrying heavy burdens of (1) sin, (2) excessive demands of religious leaders (23:4; Acts 15:10), (3) oppression and persecution, or (4) weariness in the search for God.
