Manufacturers in Anambra State are raising alarms over the soaring costs of diesel and other traditional energy sources that continue to strain production and industrial growth.
Lady (Dr.) Ada Chukwudozie, Chairman of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) for the Anambra, Enugu, and Ebonyi Zone, highlighted the urgent need to transition from diesel-dependent operations to gas-based energy.
She made the remarks yesterday in Awka during a forum organised for energy stakeholders by the Anambra State Government and Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG) Limited.
Describing the shift as more than a technical adjustment, Chukwudozie said it represents a strategic pathway toward sustainable industrial growth.
She expressed optimism that Anambra, with its vibrant industrial clusters in Nnewi, Onitsha, Awka, Nkpor, and surrounding areas, could significantly benefit from the transition.
“For many manufacturers, the cost and reliability of power directly determine whether factories expand, stagnate, or shut down,” Chukwudozie noted.
She emphasised that reliable and affordable gas could reduce production costs, stabilise energy supply, and enhance the competitiveness of locally made products.
Chukwudozie also called for collaboration between energy providers, government, regulators, and industry stakeholders to fully leverage gas-driven industrialisation.
She stressed that clear pricing, supportive policies, and robust gas infrastructure would be key to encouraging manufacturers, particularly SMEs, to embrace the transition.
“Properly structured, gas infrastructure within industrial clusters can transform Anambra into a leading model for sustainable industrial energy in Nigeria and West Africa,” she added.
Earlier, Raph Gbobo, General Manager of SNG, pledged commitment to co-create practical solutions with the state, including displacing diesel through virtual gas deployment and developing a cost-effective power market for key industrial clusters.
The forum was attended by top government officials, including Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Prof Solo Chukwulobelu, Commissioner for Power and Water Resources Engr Julius Chukwuemeka, and other key commissioners from Budget & Economic Planning, Industry, and Petroleum.
The dialogue underscores the growing recognition that energy solutions are central to industrial resilience and the economic growth of Anambra State.
