Tricycle rider abandons injured victim at Asaba FMC

A Tricycle rider has abandoned a middle-aged trader, Augustina Oyadi, whom he knocked down, at the Female Orthopaedic and General Surgical Ward of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Asaba, Delta State.

Oyadi, a foodstuff seller operating along the busy Iboza Junction–UBA axis in Asaba, is battling severe pain and uncertainty after sustaining a serious leg injury during the incident last Wednesday.

Witnesses described the tricycle rider as a young Hausa man, commonly known as “Aboki.”

Initially, he tried to help the injured woman after the collision, rushing her to St. Joseph Hospital in Asaba for treatment, but due to the severity of her injury, medical personnel at the private hospital referred her to the FMC, Asaba, for specialist care.

The sources reported that the rider then transported Oyadi to the Federal Medical Centre but abandoned her at the female orthopaedic and surgical ward before quietly disappearing from the hospital premises, leaving the victim and her family members stranded.

The visibly distressed trader, who spoke from her hospital bed, lamented her condition and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“I am in serious pain. The doctor said they will treat me and that I may have to spend about 10 days here,” she said.

The victim said that the tricycle rider vanished shortly after dropping her off at the hospital, leaving her relatives scrambling to handle the medical situation and the financial implications of her treatment.

Meanwhile, the family members confirmed that a complaint had been lodged at the Division ‘A’ Police Station, Asaba, in an attempt to track down the fleeing rider and ensure he is held accountable.

However, for Oyadi and her family, the immediate concern remains her recovery and the hope that the rider responsible for her injury will soon be apprehended.

Although the Command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, could not be reached for official comment at the time of filing this report, a senior police officer confirmed that an investigation is ongoing.

“We are already investigating the matter. The boy will be apprehended anywhere he is within the state,” the officer said on condition of anonymity.
