The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has confirmed the collapse of a four-storey building located on Adu Street in the Aguda area of Ogba, Lagos.
The building, which housed both residential occupants and a private school, collapsed on Monday, prompting concern in the neighbourhood. No casualties were recorded as students, staff, and other occupants had exited the building before the incident occurred.
Following the incident, officials of LASBCA, in collaboration with the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other relevant responders, promptly visited the site to assess the situation and ensure public safety.
As a precaution, occupants of nearby buildings were advised to vacate their premises temporarily. At the same time, safety assessments of surrounding structures were conducted to determine their condition and structural stability.
LASBCA noted that preliminary observations indicate that some form of building activity had been ongoing at the property before the incident. However, a comprehensive investigation is currently underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
The Agency urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with relevant authorities as technical assessments and necessary safety procedures continue at the site.
LASBCA also reiterated the importance of engaging appropriate regulatory processes and maintaining regular communication with building control authorities when carrying out construction, renovation, or structural modification works.
