Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has reached a landmark 20-goal milestone in Turkey, further cementing his status as one of the Süper Süper Lig’s most prolific forwards.

Onuachu scored a first-half brace on Monday night to propel Trabzonspor to a commanding 3-1 victory over Kayserispor, equalling a 14-year club goalscoring record.

The towering Nigerian has now scored in seven consecutive league matches, matching the record set by Turkish legend Burak Yılmaz in the 2011/12 season. Across all competitions, Onuachu’s streak extends to nine successive games.

His double against Kayserispor pushed him to 20 league goals in just 22 appearances, marking the fifth time in his professional career he has reached the 20-goal mark in a single season — replicating the elite standards he previously set in Belgium and Denmark.

Onuachu’s consistent scoring has been instrumental for Trabzonspor under coach Fatih Tekke. Directly responsible for nearly 40 per cent of the club’s league goals, his brilliance keeps the Black Sea Storm firmly in third place and in contention for UEFA Champions League qualification.

The match’s turning point came in the 8th minute, when Kayserispor’s Dorukhan Toköz received a straight red card for a dangerous challenge, leaving the visitors with ten men. Trabzonspor probed patiently, finally breaking through in first-half stoppage time. In the 45+2nd minute, Wagner Pina’s pinpoint cross met Onuachu’s towering header to open the scoring.

Five minutes later, the Nigerian calmly converted a penalty after a foul in the box, doubling the lead and sealing his record before halftime. Trabzonspor effectively put the game beyond reach in the 53rd minute when Kayserispor goalkeeper Bilal Bayazit inadvertently scored an own goal under relentless pressure.

Despite their disadvantage, the hosts managed a 90+5th-minute consolation goal through Joshua Brienet, but it did little to overshadow Onuachu’s historic performance.

With this achievement, Onuachu continues to build a legacy as one of Nigeria’s most consistent and lethal goal scorers abroad.
