Newgate University set to launch NUC-approved postgraduate programmes

The management of Newgate University, Minna, in Niger State, has announced the completion of all arrangements for the commencement of newly approved postgraduate programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sadiq Yusuf, disclosed this during a press briefing held at the university campus on Tuesday in Minna.

According to him, the newly approved programmes include Postgraduate Diplomas in Management Studies, Computer Science, Public Health and Health Management.

He added that the university will also offer Master of Science (MSc) degrees in Accounting, Business Administration, International Relations, Public Health and Computer Science, with specialisations in Cyber Security, Software Engineering and Information Technology Systems.

Professor Yusuf further revealed that the institution will run Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes in Computer Science, Business Administration, Accounting and International Relations.

In addition, the university will introduce several professional and executive programmes, including Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), Doctor of Management (DMX), Doctor of Public Health (DPH), Master of Public Health (MPH), Executive MBA, Master of International Affairs and Diplomacy (MIAD), Master of Development Studies (MDX), Master of Strategic Studies (MSS), as well as programmes in Accounting and Finance.

The Vice-Chancellor assured that the institution remains committed to maintaining the highest academic standards in the delivery of the programmes.

He explained that the university has structured its postgraduate school to promote research excellence, professional relevance and innovation-driven academic leadership.

He noted that the programmes are expected to strengthen the university’s research capacity and produce highly skilled professionals and scholars capable of contributing meaningfully to national development through knowledge creation and innovation.

The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed that the university currently runs 16 academic programmes—14 postgraduate and two undergraduate—with a student population of over 2,018.
