The member representing Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency of Imo State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Engr. Akarachi Etinosa Amadi, has explained that his sponsorship of 38 bills since joining the National Assembly is aimed at strengthening policies that promote development, youth empowerment and good governance.
Amadi said the legislative proposals were carefully designed to address critical challenges facing Nigerians while creating frameworks that support economic growth, education and infrastructure development.
The lawmaker in a chat with reporters in Abuja noted that effective lawmaking goes beyond debates on the floor of the National Assembly and must result in policies that improve the lives of citizens.
“Legislation is one of the most important tools for driving national development. Every bill we sponsor is aimed at addressing real problems and creating opportunities for our people,” he said.
According to him, the bills he has sponsored cut across strategic sectors including youth empowerment, economic development, education, infrastructure and governance reforms.
Amadi explained that his legislative agenda reflects the priorities and needs of the people of Mbaitoli and Ikeduru Federal Constituency, as well as broader national interests.
He added that the focus on youth empowerment and education was deliberate, noting that young Nigerians represent a critical driver of the country’s future development.
“The goal is to ensure that our policies create opportunities for young people, strengthen institutions and promote inclusive growth across communities,” he said.
The lawmaker stressed that legislation must also be complemented by grassroots development initiatives that deliver tangible benefits to citizens.
He cited some of his constituency interventions, including the Free JAMB Enrolment Programme and the Operation Light Up Mbaike solar street lighting project, as examples of efforts to combine legislative advocacy with practical development initiatives.

“Now in its fifth edition and tagged “2026 Free JAMB Enrolment – Investing in Our Future,” the programme provides students across Mbaitoli and Ikeduru with free registration for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board examination. Beyond covering examination fees, the initiative also includes a scholarship component. Students who score 200 and above in the examination automatically qualify for fully funded scholarships into federal and state universities across Nigeria,” he said.
“The scholarships cover tuition and provide essential academic support to beneficiaries. To ensure wider participation, registration forms are distributed through grassroots channels including President Generals of autonomous communities as well as Catholic and Anglican churches across Mbaitoli and Ikeduru. The arrangement allows families in rural areas to access the programme without the burden of travelling long distances.”
Continuing, he noted: “One of the most visible projects under his leadership is Operation Light Up Mbaike, a solar-powered street lighting initiative aimed at improving security and economic activities in communities affected by poor electricity supply. Under the first phase of the programme, about 2,500 solar street lights have been installed across 23 autonomous communities within Mbaitoli and Ikeduru.
“The solar-powered installations provide reliable lighting without relying on the unstable public power supply, enabling businesses and markets to operate for longer hours while improving safety for residents at night. Community leaders and traditional rulers who attended the commissioning of the project described it as a significant intervention that has improved night-time security and economic activity in several communities.”
Amadi said the initiative was designed to restore confidence in public spaces while enhancing safety and economic opportunities for residents.
He also acknowledged the role of traditional rulers, community stakeholders, and local leaders whose cooperation contributed to the implementation of the project, adding that plans are underway to expand the lighting programme to additional communities.
He said the ultimate objective of his legislative work is to ensure that government policies translate into meaningful improvements in the lives of Nigerians.
