Osimhen deserves Premier League or La Liga move – Leboeuf

Victor Osimhen

Former Chelsea FC defender Frank Leboeuf has said Victor Osimhen deserves to play in either the Premier League or La Liga, despite the striker’s impressive form with Galatasaray.

The Nigeria national football team forward has previously attracted interest from top English clubs including Manchester United and Chelsea, but potential transfers failed to materialise due to financial demands from his former club SSC Napoli as well as wage considerations.

Chelsea were reportedly prepared to offer Osimhen a weekly wage of about £130,000 before he instead completed a loan move to Galatasaray in September 2024.

It has also been suggested that Manchester United hesitated over a deal due to the striker’s commitments with Nigeria during the Africa Cup of Nations.

In a move that surprised many observers, Galatasaray later activated the striker’s €75 million release clause last summer, making his transfer permanent following a successful loan spell during the 2024–2025 campaign.

Osimhen has continued to underline his quality in Turkey, scoring 37 goals in 48 league appearances for the Istanbul-based club.
Speaking on ESPN FC, Leboeuf said he believes the Nigerian forward should be competing in one of Europe’s top leagues.
“I would love to see Osimhen one day in the Premier League or La Liga,” he said.

“With all due respect to the Super Lig, Osimhen deserves to play in the best league in the world, so the Premier League would be great.”
Beyond his goal-scoring ability, Osimhen has also contributed creatively this season, registering seven assists, his highest single-season assist tally since turning professional.

The 27-year-old striker remains one of Africa’s most sought-after forwards and continues to attract attention from several top European clubs.
