The newly elected Pastor of the Celestial Church of Christ, Nigeria Diocese, Reverend Lawrence OlatundeAdedeji, has called on Nigerians to pray for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He noted that prayer for those at the corridor of power is very significant because it helps them to record considerable achievements for the country.
Adedeji, who was elected on March 6, 2026 at the headquarters of Celestial Church of Christ (CCC), AfonifojiIbukun Parish, Valley of El Beracad, Challenge Mushin, Lagos, to replace the late Most Reverend Stephen EsemuOrovboni, who died last year, said that the Holy Bible enjoins that prayer should be made for those in authority.
The cleric made the call, last Sunday, during a press briefing organised by the church to present the newlyelected leader to the world.
Reverend Adedeji described Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a listening President and reminded him of the role the church played in the 2023 general elections that bought him to power.
According to the cleric, Tinubu almost withdrew from the race when all hopes were lost, but one of our prophets urged him on, encouraging him that he will be victorious at the polls. He added that with members’ prayers and support the outcome of 2027 elections will be in his favour in Jesus’ mighty name.
He recounted how President Tinubu at a timedescribed CCC as a Church of God, when he was asked about the church, stressing that members are praying for God to grant him the courage, understanding, knowledge and wisdom to lead the nation aright.
The cleric whose tenure is for life, commended his predecessor, Most Reverend Stephen Esemu Orovbonifor his dedication, spiritual leadership and commitment to the growth of the church, disclosed that tthe task before him enormous and pledged to strengthen the church’s spiritual foundation by promoting righteousness, holiness, love, peace and unity.
According to him, “these virtues are not optional in the Christian faith; they are the very pillars on which the Church stands. Righteousness and holiness must define our worship and our daily lives. Without holiness, no one can please God.”
Adedeji also promised to prioritise integrity, commitment to duty, determination, as well as character, and discipline among the clergy and the laity.
Reminding members that they are Christ’s ambassadors, Adedeji said character and discipline must be central to their spiritual growth, adding that the Church must remain a place where moral uprightness, humility and respect for divine authority are upheld at all times.
“We must recommit ourselves to a life that pleases God. Love shall guide our relationships with one another. Christ taught us that love is the greatest commandment. Where love exists, bitterness, jealousy and division cannot thrive.Peace and unity must also reign within our Diocese. The strength of the Church lies in its unity. Regardless of our backgrounds, positions or responsibilities, we must remember that we are one body in Christ. Together we can achieve far more than we can achieve individually,” he said.
