Less than 48 hours after the death of former Green Eagles midfielder, Henry Nwosu, another ex-national team star, Lawrence Orairo, has joined the list of departed stars.
Orairo, who was in the Flying Eagles team that comprised late Stephen Keshi, late Henry Nwosu and ailing Franklin Howard, was said to have died Sunday morning while training with his All Stars colleagues in Kirikiri area in Apapa, Lagos.
According to an online platform, sportsunlimited.ng, the late Orairo, who became popular with the all-conquering New Nigerian Bank FC of Benin, was engaged in football exercise and suddenly slumped. He was confirmed dead at the hospital.
Orairo’s death brought to six the number of Nigerian sports personalities that have passed on within two weeks.
Two respected sports journalists, Niyi Oyeleke and Tonex Chukwu, who died early this month, were followed by the president of Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF), Chamberlain Dunkwu, who died at the age of 55.
The nation was still in mourning these departures when veteran football tactician, Adegboye Onigbinde, passed on at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex, Ile-Ife, a few days after he celebrated his 88th birthday.
One of Nigeria’s best dribblers and member of the 1980 AFCON winning squad, Henry Nwosu joined the list of departed heroes on Saturday.
