The Kirti Kare Foundation (KKF) and the KKF Legacy Society have called for stronger police reforms and deeper implementation of community policing initiatives.

Founder of the Foundation, Dr Kirti Sudhanshu, stressed that police reform must go beyond administrative reshuffling, but focusing on substantive institutional changes.

He, however, said that key reform priorities must include strengthened accountability and transparent oversight systems, improved officers’ welfare and continuous capacity building, adoption of technology-driven policing strategies and clear operational standards anchored on respect for human rights.

Sudhanshu, who congratulated Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha on his promotion to Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), said that the appointment comes at a critical time when the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is facing renewed calls for structural reforms aimed at improving accountability, professionalism, and community’s trust.

The Foundation also identified community policing as a central pillar of sustainable reform, noting that effective policing requires consistent engagement with local stakeholders, including community leaders, youth groups, and business associations to enhance intelligence gathering and crime prevention.

It described Fayoade’s elevation as an important leadership transition and an opportunity to strengthen ongoing reform efforts within the Force.

According to the Foundation, Fayoade’s more than three decades of service place him within a system that requires balanced leadership capable of aligning reform objectives with practical implementation.

It, therefore, called on the NPF to intensify efforts to protect the society and ensure a safer environment for Nigerians, stressing that effective policing is critical to environmental safety, public health and national security.

The Foundation, however, expressed hope that the new DIG will support measures that deepen public confidence, strengthen institutional accountability, and expand community-based policing frameworks across the country.
