A civil society group, Vanguard for Truth, has criticised Senator Adams Oshiomhole over what it described as his alleged failure to address worsening insecurity in Edo North Senatorial District.
Led by Dr. Richard Bagudu, the group in a statement titled “Oshiomhole: The Truth Is Still Putting On Its Shoes,” the group accused the former Edo State governor of neglecting his constituency despite rising cases of kidnapping and declining economic activities across communities.
The group claimed insecurity in Edo North, particularly in Afenmai land, has escalated from isolated incidents on highways and farmlands to attacks on homes and local communities, forcing many residents to abandon farming and other livelihoods.
According to Vanguard for Truth, community-led efforts to curb the menace—coordinated through the Amalgamated Afemai Forum have received widespread support from stakeholders, including local vigilante groups, security agencies, and indigenes.
However, the group alleged that Oshiomhole has failed to provide financial or logistical support to these grassroots initiatives despite repeated appeals.
It further claimed that a recent Edo North Security Summit, initially conceived and organised by the forum, was allegedly taken over by the Senator and relocated to his residence in Iyamho, where he assumed a central role in the proceedings.
The group described the move as undermining community-driven interventions, alleging that original organisers were sidelined during the event.
Vanguard for Truth also accused the Senator of focusing on national issues during debates at the National Assembly while allegedly ignoring security concerns within his constituency, including illegal mining activities in parts of Edo North.
They further revisited Oshiomhole’s past as a labour leader, contrasting his advocacy for workers’ rights as former president of the Nigeria Labour Congress with policies implemented during his tenure as governor, which it claimed included casualisation of labour and retrenchment of workers.
