Deloitte, Rotary celebrate IWD with students

IWD: Women leaders reignite hope at mentoring session

Deloitte, in partnership with Women in Rotary, Rotary International District 9111, marked the 2026 International Women’s Day with female secondary school students and women in Lagos, charging them to pursue their aspirations with courage, clarity and determination.

The event, themed “Gain to Gain,” with the sub-theme “Give Visibility, Gain Inspiration,” held at the Rotary Centre, GRA, Ikeja, drew participants from various secondary schools across the axis, with accomplished professional women sharing insights on leadership, career growth and personal development.

Speaking, Deloitte HR Leader, West Africa, Mrs. Ekhoe Ame-Ogie, said the initiative was aimed at inspiring young girls to recognise their potential and position themselves as future leaders in their chosen fields.

She noted that the collaboration reflects Deloitte’s broader commitment to driving meaningful social impact through strategic partnerships.

According to her, early exposure to mentorship and career guidance is critical in shaping the confidence and outlook of young girls, equipping them with the tools required to navigate life’s challenges.

Ame-Ogie added that empowering young girls at an early stage would help them understand their worth and capabilities, stressing that they already possess the qualities needed to lead and influence change.

Vice Chairman of Women in Rotary, District 9111, Sandra Mukoro, said the programme was designed not only to celebrate women, but also to encourage female students to remain committed to their academic and personal development goals.

She urged the students to be proactive, build confidence and seize opportunities that would help them grow intellectually and socially.

Mukoro further noted that the initiative aligns with the broader objectives of International Women’s Day, which seeks to promote gender equality and empower women across all strata of society.

In his remarks, the District Governor of Rotary International District 9111, Prince Henry Akinyele, emphasised the importance of education and early career planning, urging the students to remain focused and disciplined.

Delivering the keynote address, management consultant, Ibukun Beecroft, described leadership as the capacity to influence others positively, urging the students to cultivate courage, curiosity, character and confidence as essential attributes for success.
