Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has directed council members and political appointees intending to contest in the 2027 general elections to resign their positions.
The directive was issued yesterday during the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting at the Government House in Gusau, according to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris.
The decision, the statement noted, is in line with provisions of the Electoral Act and the 2027 election timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“Today (yesterday), Governor Dauda Lawal presided over the 64th Executive Council Meeting, where critical issues were deliberated for the development of Zamfara State.
“In his opening remarks, the governor directed that all council members vying for political offices should resign on or before March 31, 2026,” the statement read.
The governor further instructed the Secretary of the State Government (SSG) to issue a circular mandating all political appointees seeking elective positions to step down before the deadline.
Similarly, the Head of Service has been directed to notify civil servants with political ambitions to resign in accordance with the law.
