LASU appoints U.S. Army veteran as entrepreneurship instructor

Lagos State University (LASU) has appointed Abiodun Oseni, an international security analyst and a veteran of the United States Army, as instructor for its Entrepreneurship and Innovation course in the Department of History and International Relations.

A graduate of LASU, Oseni, who is also a former U.S. Police officer, will serve as the inaugural instructor of the course, codenamed ENT 1000, for the 2025/2026 academic year.

In an appointment letter signed by the Head of Department, Prof. Olusegun Adeyeri, the university expressed appreciation to Oseni “for his willingness to serve as a pro bono resource person for the course.”

The course contents encompass various types of entrepreneurial opportunities available to graduates in history and international studies.

Oseni’s selection is based on his specialised knowledge in the realm of security.

The appointment highlighted his “extensive contributions to national security, diplomacy, peacebuilding, counterterrorism, private security consulting, and international security.”

Oseni, whose career reflects a distinguished record of service in global peace and security, holds a fellowship at the Institute of Security, Nigeria.

Following extensive training and experience in the United States Army, he earned promotions and took on increasing leadership responsibilities.

As a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), he served as a military leader across many European nations, mentoring junior soldiers and supporting multinational defence operations.

He also provided tactical logistics support for U.S. military operations in Afghanistan through the National Training Centre (NTC).

Oseni served as a police officer in Tennessee, where he acted as a peace officer, driven by a strong passion for counterterrorism and anti-gang initiatives.

In addition, Oseni served at the U.S. Department of State as a Diplomatic Security Officer within a special operations unit based in Washington, D.C.

In that capacity, he safeguarded visiting dignitaries, contributed to crisis prevention, and helped maintain public order during potential unrest and demonstrations.

Oseni earned a National Certificate of Education (NCE) in Economics and History from Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED), and a bachelor’s degree in international relations and history from Lagos State University in Lagos, Nigeria. He also completed advanced training at the U.S. Army Quartermaster School in Virginia and the U.S. Army Leadership School in Mississippi.

In furtherance of his academic pursuits, he obtained a master’s certificate in International Security with distinction from Harvard University and a master’s degree in international relations and Global Security, with a concentration in Conflict Resolution from American Military University.

Oseni has spoken at many events across Africa and authored numerous articles on national and international security and foreign policy, published in respected journals and newspapers.

Drawing on his extensive international experience, Oseni continues to focus on developing strategic and sustainable solutions to security challenges in Nigeria and across Africa.
