Governor Dauda Lawal will join global policymakers and scholars in the United Kingdom for a strategic governance workshop at Coventry University, aimed at strengthening research-based decision-making and building resilient public institutions.
The workshop, scheduled for March 30–31, is organised by the Centre for Resilient Business and Society and supported by United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI).
In a statement on Sunday, the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, said the initiative aligns with Zamfara State’s commitment to adopting data-driven approaches to governance and sustainable development.
He noted that the event will bring together international experts to explore practical strategies for addressing governance challenges through research, innovation, and evidence-based policies.
Sessions at the two-day workshop will cover key themes such as resilient leadership in resource-limited environments, financial sustainability, public sector innovation, change management, and ethical data use in governance.
Lawal is expected to attend alongside a high-level delegation, including the Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, special advisers, and the Executive Secretary of the Zamfara Information Technology Development Agency (ZITDA).
The governor will also participate in an interactive session with postgraduate researchers titled: “The Role of Research in Policymaking: Driving Strategic and Resilient Governance – Lessons from the Six-Point Rescue Agenda.”
The discussion will focus on translating academic research into actionable policies, while drawing lessons from Zamfara’s development strategy.
Idris added that the state’s participation underscores its broader efforts to integrate research and data into governance, particularly in critical sectors such as security, peacebuilding, agriculture, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and economic empowerment.
