Medical experts have emphasised the need to combine physiology with innovations such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and biosensors, saying that such integration will strengthen diagnostics, therapies, and the overall healthcare system .
The medical experts maintained that such a move would enhance diagnostics, treatments, and overall healthcare across the country, said that the adoption of AI in the field would enable safer, more effective plant-based treatments.
The stakeholders converged at the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) in Ondo State to discuss how physiology and new technologies can transform healthcare.
Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, noted that the conference indicated the institution’s commitment to advancing scientific research and using new technologies to tackle important health issues.
ALSO, religious leaders, under the aegis of the Nigeria Religious Coalition on Artificial Intelligence (NRCAI), have raised concerns over the rapid adoption of AI in the country, calling for urgent ethical safeguards and reduced dependence on advanced AI systems.
They gave the charge during a training programme for journalists in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, aimed at strengthening media capacity to report the coalition’s position on AI and its implications for society.
Director of the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) Institute of Church and Society, Ibadan, Very Rev. O. Kolade Fadahunsi, said Nigeria’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (NAIS) 2025 provides a framework for technological advancement but must be driven by strong ethical considerations.
Fadahunsi explained that while the strategy outlines goals, such as economic growth, social inclusion and technological leadership, its ethical component remains critical in addressing the risks associated with emerging technologies.
He noted that the use of AI in Nigeria is currently unregulated, creating room for misuse and abuse.
He warned that the increasing deployment of AI tools capable of generating deep fakes and misleading content could erode public trust and heighten social tensions if left unchecked.
