Kwankwaso tasks Nigerians on 2027 polls, formalises alliance with ADC
Gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general elections in Kano State, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, has resigned his appointment as Chairman, Governing Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN).

Gawuna, a former Commissioner of Agriculture under Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, rose to become deputy governor.

He lost to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who contested under the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) at the last general elections.

In a resignation letter dated March 27, 2026, and made available to journalists yesterday, the APC ex-governorship candidate said his decision takes immediate effect and aligns with the President’s directive aimed at ensuring adherence to electoral laws ahead of forthcoming political activities.

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, describing his tenure as a privilege to contribute to the growth and development of the FMBN and the country at large.

Gawuna further assured of his commitment to a smooth transition process, noting that he would hand over all responsibilities in accordance with established procedures and directives.

Before his appointment, Gawuna was Chairman of the Governing Council of Bayero University, Kano.

Meanwhile, credible sources revealed that the ex-deputy governor may dump the ruling APC for the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) to advance his political ambition in Kano. He was said to have perfected a plan to align with the Kwankwasiyya movement to sustain political relevance.

IN a similar vein, presidential candidate of the NNPP in 2023,
Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who has since resigned from the party and registered with the ADC, has urged Nigerians to regard the forthcoming general elections as among the most serious in their political lives.

Kwankwaso, who registered with the ADC at his Miller Road country home yesterday, under registration number 000201, said Nigerians have a duty to free the country from the shackles of misgovernance and go out on election day with serious-looking faces.

Speaking, ADC’s National Chairman, David Mark, stated that the day marks a defining moment in the history of the nation’s democracy.

He added that it marks a special day in the journey to make Nigeria a better country and a more united nation.

Mark explained that Kwankwaso is highly welcome, along with millions of his supporters, to the ADC. He said they have come together in unity of purpose, conviction and vision.
