GEF, UNIDO submit plans on industrial energy efficiency in Nigeria

The Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), in collaboration with the UNIDO and funded by the Japanese government, has launched the Jabi Plastic Waste Collection Center in the FCT.

The international partners, Global Environment Facility, United Nations Industrial Development and Manufacturing Association of Nigeria have submitted plans for the transformation of industries with energy efficient and cleaner production solutions in the country.

Speaking at the stakeholders summit in Abuja,Dr. Reuben Bamidele of UNIDO expressed appreciation for the outcome of their cross fertilization of ideas on energy efficiency transition plan that would promote industrialization of Nigeria.

Also, Kabiru Jedda of Global Environment Facility, said the collaborative efforts of all the stakeholders in the project, will go a long way to drive home the implementation of initiative, particularly in the Ministries, Departments and Agencies, private sector and other partners.

Jedda explained that interactive session is central to Nigeria’s progress and future initiatives for our industries, saying, “we are committed to the success of the outcome aimed at achieving sustainable industrial growth.

He added, they have discussed emerging issues in our industries as relate to energy efficiency and cleaner production as way to further enhance our learning experience, and address any concerns and explore opportunities for improvement in our industries.

In a contribution, National Project Coordinator,Mr. Jacob Oladipo asserted that the interaction session is providing a unique platform for stakeholders to reflect on the journey of the project, share its key outcomes, and highlight the remarkable achievements recorded.

Oladipo argued, “Over the course of the project implementation, significant progress has been made in promoting Industrial Energy Efficiency and Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production methodologies within the Nigerian industrial sector.”

“As we move forward, the transition toward sustainable and resource-efficient industrial production will require continued partnership, knowledge sharing, and commitment from all stakeholders,” he added.

Dr. Shehu Mustafa of IEE Working group,submitted the Outcomes on Energy Commission of Nigeria;Eng. Morgan Obiora presented the project Outcomes under Ministry of Environment, while Dr. Oluwasegun Osidipe gave the Outcomes on Manufacturing Association of Nigeria.
