Priscilla Ojo Mkambala has publicly defended her mother, Iyabo Ojo, amid ongoing reactions to the viral moment involving Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham.
In a post shared on her Instagram page, Priscilla said her mother has been unfairly criticised and blamed for issues she is not directly involved in.
Her comments come days after social media users called on Iyabo Ojo to intervene following an awkward interaction between Akindele and Abraham at a recent movie premiere.
“Always misunderstood, always blamed, even when she’s not the one in the mix,” she wrote, suggesting that there has been a pattern of controversies since the announcement of her mother’s latest film.
She further claimed that the controversies were aimed at disrupting the project’s success, adding that despite the distractions, the film would perform well at the box office.
Priscilla also addressed criticism of her mother’s public silence and responses, stating that her actions are often misinterpreted.
“When she’s quiet, they twist the story. When she speaks, they get angry about the truth and still twist the story,” she said.
She described Iyabo Ojo as someone who consistently supports others both publicly and privately, while not always receiving the same level of support in return. According to her, many of the criticisms directed at her mother stem from her willingness to defend others.
“Most of the time she gets dragged is because she’s always fighting people’s battles offline and online, but when it’s time for them to fight for her, they go mute,” she added.
Priscilla concluded by expressing confidence in the success of the film, The Return of Arinzo, urging fans to support its cinema release on April 3.
Her remarks follow heightened online discussions after a video from the premiere of The Return of Arinzo went viral. The event, held on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, showed Toyin Abraham approaching Funke Akindele to greet her. Akindele, who features in the film, appeared not to acknowledge the greeting, maintaining a straight face.
The clip sparked reactions online with some social media users interpreting the moment as a sign of tension between both actresses. Others directed criticism at Iyabo Ojo, questioning her role as a mutual associate of the two.
In response to the backlash, Iyabo Ojo earlier stated that she had made efforts in the past to settle differences between Akindele and Abraham, but would no longer involve herself in mediating between them.
