Security agents in Delta State have intensified offensive against criminal elements across the state, recording significant breakthroughs in a series of intelligence-led operations, resulting in the arrest of suspects and the recovery of firearms, illicit drugs and dangerous weapons.
Spokesperson for Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, disclosed that the coordinated raids were carried out in different parts of the state as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and enhance public safety.
According to him, operatives of the Command’s Raiders Unit, acting on credible intelligence, on April 4, 2026, about 1.00pm, stormed a suspected criminal hideout in Agbor, Ika South Local Council.
The operation resulted in the arrest of Henry Obi, 34, a native of Anambra State, who reportedly confessed to being a member of the notorious Aiye Confraternity.
A search of the premises led to the recovery of an English-made pistol loaded with six rounds of live ammunition.
Further inspection uncovered suspected illicit drugs cleverly concealed inside a standing air conditioner in the living room, an indication of deliberate attempts to evade law enforcement detection.
The suspect, along with the recovered exhibits, is in police custody as investigations continue.
In a related operation, operatives of the Buffalo Team, in collaboration with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Achalla Branch, on April 5, 2026, about 5.09 pm, carried out a coordinated raid at the Hausa Market near the Customs Checkpoint along the Benin–Asaba Expressway.
The operation resulted in the arrest of four suspects identified as Yakubu Umar, 19, Galiu Adamu, 17, Nuhu Musa, 16, and Zaraduwu Usman, 21.
Recovered items from the suspects include large quantities of suspected illicit drugs such as Colorado, Canadian Loud, Indian hemp, Tramadol and Swinol. Additionally, two locally fabricated battle axes and N144,000 were seized during the raid.
All suspects are in custody, while further investigations are underway to ascertain the extent of their involvement in criminal activities.
Reacting to the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the officers for their professionalism, swift response, and effective collaboration with local vigilante groups.
He emphasised that such proactive and intelligence-driven operations remain crucial to the command’s sustained crackdown on crime across the state.
The CP called on residents to remain vigilant and continue to support law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information, assuring that the command “remains committed” to the protection of lives and property in Delta.
