The Delta State Police Command has killed two members of a three-man robbery syndicate during a gun battle in Ogwashi-Ukwu, near Asaba, the capital.

The force’s Public Relations Officer, Andrew Aniamaka, who confirmed the incident yesterday in Asaba, said the hoodlums met their waterloo on Wednesday night while operating around Saint Patrick Catholic Church where officers of the Ogwashi-Ukwu Police Division engaged them with the third member of the gang escaping with bullet wounds.

He said the gang had successfully accomplished its mission and was heading out of the locality when the anti-robbery squad closed in on them, resulting in an exchange of fire.

His words: “Following a tip-off, the anti-robbery members of the Ogwashi-Uku Police Division moved into the scene and the suspects who were somewhere around the Catholic Church, precisely Ogbeofu Quarters, engaged the police in a shoot-out. Two of them fell while the third member of the gang escaped with bullet wounds,” adding that the force was on his trail.

Also yesterday, the Police Division arraigned 60 suspected Biafra agitators and cultists for alleged unlawful assembly.

The suspects, reports said, allegedly assembled for an ‘evil meeting’ in the community on Tuesday when the police, acting on a tip-off, arrested them in their hideout.
