Lagos gets second elite club as Inter joins NPFL

Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL)

Following a superlative performance in the 2025/26 Nigerian National League (NNL) season, Inter Lagos have been promoted to the elite Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL).

The club becomes the second Lagos-based team to play in the elite division next season, joining Ikorodu City in the top class.

Inter Lagos is the second NNL side to confirm their promotion to the NPFL, the other being Doma United.

Two more teams are expected to join the duo in the NPFL at the conclusion of the season.

Inter Lagos confirmed their elevation to the NPFL with a 1–1 draw against Smart City FC in the Conference A of the league on Monday, with a game to spare.

The draw gave them 29 points from 15 matches.

There are four conferences in the NNL, and the top teams automatically qualify for promotion to the elite division.

Before stepping into the NPFL, the newly promoted sides will clash in the Super 4 play-off in Ikenne, a final test to determine the overall NNL champion.
