Osun APC scored own goal with Oke as campaign DG – Olajengbesi

Accord Party chieftain, Pelumi Olajengbesi, says with the appointment of Wole Oke as the Director General of the All Progressives Congress campaign team for the August 15 governorship poll in Osun State, the APC has scored an own goal in the forthcoming poll.

In a statement on Tuesday, Olajengbesi, a lawyer and the convener of the Imole Grassroots Mobilisation Network, a support movement advocating the re-election of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, said Oke has zero electoral value having failed to deliver meaningful dividends of democracy to the people of Obokun Oriade in the last 24 years since he assumed the seat as federal lawmaker in the House of Representatives.

Olajengbesi said the defeat of the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, has become cheaper and easier with the party’s appointment of Oke as the campaign director general.

Olajengbesi said, “I have just read that the All Progressives Congress in Osun State has appointed Wole Oke as its campaign director general for the August governorship election.

“This is a pitiable development for the APC as the defeat of its candidate has been further made cheaper and easier with the appointment of a failed federal lawmaker with no significant achievement for 24 years as campaign director general. But as the saying goes: ‘Leave your opponents to dig their own political graves’.

“Oke, in the euphoria of his new position, was quoted to have said ‘Governor Ademola Adeleke should start packing his loads from Government House’ and that he (Oke) is a specialist at removing a sitting governor.

“Let me state unequivocally that only the people of Osun State reserve the constitutional right to remove a sitting governor through the ballots. Anyone claiming to possess some power to do so is either a specialist at manufacturing or manipulating votes which is an outright criminal offence.

“Oke should not bother deceive Oyebamiji with false hope as the people of Osun State are in love with Governor Ademola Adeleke and his giant strides across all sectors in the state, despite the federal asphyxiation of local government revenues and other allocations that ought to have accrued to the state.

“One thing is clear, the people of Osun State will reject Oke and his principal at the poll just as they rejected Gboyega Oyetola at the 2022 election, even though Oyetola was the incumbent.

“Osun people have seen light after over a decade of combined darkness of the APC in the state. One thing is therefore certain: they don’t want to return to darkness hence Imole is their default choice in the coming poll. Hence, an embarrassing defeat awaits Oke and the APC candidate.”
