Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has assured that the four additional motor parks being constructed by his administration would soon be completed and ready for use.
The governor made this known on Thursday while commiserating with victims of the fire disaster at the Sokoto Central Motor Park.
A statement signed by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Abubakar Bawa, quoted the governor as saying that the four motor parks were currently at various stages of completion and would soon be put into operation. He attributed the fire outbreak partly to congestion at the Sokoto Central Motor Park.
“Our motor parks are gradually becoming congested due to the increase in population, hence the need to decongest them,” he said.
“That is why we came up with the idea of constructing four motor parks located in different parts of the metropolis.”
The governor assured victims of the fire outbreak of the state government’s support to help them recover and continue their businesses.
He also appealed to the victims to accept the incident as the will of Almighty Allah and prayed for protection against future occurrences of such disasters in the state.
Aliyu further urged residents to strictly observe safety regulations, especially when handling inflammable materials.
He reassured the people of the state of his administration’s continued commitment to meeting their needs and aspirations.
Aliyu also solicited continued support and prayers to enable his administration deliver more dividends of democracy across the state.
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Barr. Nasiru Aliyu Dan Tsoho, informed the governor that no lives were lost in the incident, although several properties were destroyed.
He thanked the governor for visiting the scene, describing it as a clear demonstration of his concern for the welfare of the people.
The governor was accompanied on the visit by the State APC Chairman, Haruna Adiya, North-West Secretary of APC, Isa Saddiq Achida, House Leader, Bello Idris, Member representing Sabon Birni North, Aminu Almustafa Boza, as well as members of the State Executive Council, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, and other political office holders.
