Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state has reiterated his administration’s commitment to investing in education and youth development as part of efforts to curb insecurity and drive sustainable growth.
The governor made this known on Monday, while receiving the Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mehmet Poroy, at the Government House in Yola.
Fintiri commended the Turkish government for its continued support to internally displaced persons (IDPs), particularly through the provision of food and non-food items, as well as its collaboration in the education sector.
He disclosed that more than 100 students from the state are currently studying in Turkey, noting that they are performing well academically. The governor added that the state government plans to sponsor more students while expanding opportunities for youths through education and skills acquisition initiatives.
According to him, the establishment of a School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the state is part of deliberate efforts to equip young people with practical, job-ready skills. He called for deeper collaboration with Turkey to strengthen skill acquisition centres and broaden development opportunities for residents.
In his remarks, Ambassador Poroy reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to supporting Nigeria in tackling insecurity and providing humanitarian assistance to displaced communities.
He revealed that the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency is planning to establish an office in Abuja to enhance development cooperation and expand vocational training programmes across the country.
The ambassador also disclosed that he visited the Malkohi Internally Displaced Persons camp, where he participated in the distribution of food relief materials to vulnerable families, underscoring Turkey’s ongoing humanitarian support efforts.
