The Governing Council of the University of Medical Sciences has ratified the promotion of five Readers to the rank of full professors and a Senior Lecturer to an associate professor.
With the decision taken during the extraordinary meeting of the governing council held on Wednesday, the vice-chancellor, Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, described the promotions as a testament to sustained academic excellence and meaningful contributions to society.
The professors include Lawal Oyeneyin (Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology), Michael Gbala (Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology), Joshua Babayemi (Department of Biosciences and Biotechnology), Edosa Uhumwangho (Department of Biochemistry) and Adegbiji Atilade (Department of Surgery).
Dr Kayode Adepoju of the Department of Health Information Management was also promoted from the position of senior lecturer to reader.
The vice-chancellor noted that the honourees have distinguished themselves through rigorous scholarship, impactful research, and dedicated service to both the university and the wider community.
According to her, the elevation is not only a reward for years of hard work but also an acknowledgement of the vital role the beneficiaries continue to play in advancing knowledge and strengthening the institution’s reputation.
Adejuyigbe emphasised that their achievements reflect the university’s commitment to fostering academic distinction and innovation.
While congratulating the newly promoted scholars, the vice-chancellor, who urged them to view the recognition as a call to greater responsibility, encouraged them to sustain their momentum and continue pushing the boundaries of research and professional practice.
“The university and the global community need your expertise now more than ever,” she stated, adding that their continued dedication will inspire younger academics and contribute significantly to national development.”
