Afenifere tasks Federal Government on internal security, agencies’ welfare

Afenifere

The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, has called on the Federal Government to boost the morale and equipment of the military and other security agencies amid the spate of insecurity across the country.

Afenifere, while urging security agencies to look inward for internal collaborators suspected of aiding bandits and terrorists, expressed concern over what it described as increasing terror acts now ravaging the South-West.

It, however, said that the insecurity situation in the country now appears to be taking on a genocidal agenda, commiserating with victims of terrorism in Yorubaland and other parts of Nigeria.

The organisation stated this in a communique issued at the end of its caucus meeting held at the Akure country home of its leader, Reuben Fasoranti, with members from all six Yoruba states, as well as Kwara and Kogi states, in attendance.

The meeting, chaired by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Olu of Ilu-Abo, Oba Olu Falae, who heads Afenifere’s executive committee, deliberated on security, economic, and socio-political issues affecting Yorubaland and Nigeria as a whole.

Afenifere, during the meeting, called on governors of the six South-West states to take more decisive actions, including strengthening the Amotekun security network, paying greater attention to surveillance, and expediting actions on the establishment of state police.

Meanwhile, the organisation has announced that the centenary birthday celebration of its leader, Fasoranti, will take place on Monday, May 11, 2026, disclosing that governors and eminent individuals are being invited to join the celebration of the 100th birthday.
