Senator Ned Nwoko has officially declared his intention to seek re-election to the Senate, while also pledging support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general elections.
Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District, made the declaration on Friday while speaking with journalists at the Asaba International Airport shortly after arriving in the city. He was accompanied by former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege.
Speaking on national politics, the senator expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership, commending his performance since assuming office.
“I will work for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu because he has done well. I believe in the President and his performance so far,” Nwoko said.
He also formally announced his intention to return to the Senate, saying his relationship with the people of Delta North remains strong and rooted in service.
“The people know me, and I know them. I understand their needs, and I am committed to addressing their challenges,” he stated.
Nwoko was received by a large crowd of supporters at the airport, a show of support political observers described as an early display of grassroots strength ahead of the 2027 elections.
Responding to the turnout, the senator said it reflected the enduring bond between him and his constituents, as well as public confidence in his representation.
He reiterated that his legislative work has been driven by the need to amplify the voices of his constituents and deliver practical solutions to their concerns.
Nwoko also urged residents of Delta North to remain united and embrace what he described as development-focused leadership, while rejecting “old politics.”
On education, he disclosed plans to facilitate the upgrade of the Federal College of Education, Asaba, into a federal university, describing it as a strategic move to expand access to higher education and create opportunities for young people.
He further addressed the long-standing agitation for the creation of Anioma State, aligning himself with the position of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, which he said reflects the current national direction on the issue.
Nwoko’s declaration is expected to intensify political activities in Delta North as parties and aspirants begin early consultations ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
