Debby Classique warns social media users against breach of trust

As society becomes increasingly driven by digital exposure, media personality, Dr. Debby Goodnews Silas, alias Debby Classique, has warned social media users against sharing things that were never meant for public consumption.

Speaking with journalists, she condemned the growing tendency to disrespect people’s privacy by sharing private information publicly, sometimes to gain attention or create a false narrative.

To ensure accountability, responsibility, discretion, and respect for others’ personal lives in this digital age, she advised social media users to “learn to separate what is yours from what is not.”

Her words: “What we are seeing today is a shift from character to clout. People are more concerned about being noticed than being honourable. Social media has created a culture where over-sharing is normalised, and unfortunately, that includes sharing things that were never meant for public consumption.

“Many people no longer understand the value of trust because they don’t see immediate consequences for breaking it. But what they fail to realise is that every time you betray someone’s confidence, you damage your own credibility.

“Privacy is a form of respect. When someone confides in you, they are handing you something fragile. If you expose it, you are not just telling a story—you are revealing your lack of discipline and integrity.

‘My advice is this: Learn to separate what is yours from what is not. Just because you have access to someone’s life does not mean you have permission to share it. Silence is not weakness – it is maturity.

“We need to raise a generation that understands that loyalty is rare, and once broken, it is very difficult to rebuild. If you want to be respected, become someone who can be trusted behind closed doors, not just admired in public.”

Her message underscores a growing need for accountability in how people handle sensitive information in an age where everything can be instantly shared.
