Fresh leadership tussle rock ADC in Kano

African Democratic Congress (ADC)

The opposition African Democratic Congress is cracking down with fresh leadership crisis as a group petitioned police authority over impending parallel congress.

In a petition filed by a Support Group in ADC, the supporters raised alarm over what they described as a planned parallel leadership election that could trigger security challenges in the state.

The opposition ADC recently produced a 34 member state executives in a consensus arrangement that will pilot the affairs of the part.

Former Vice President, Alh. Atiku Abubakar, Leader of Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and former deputy governor Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna were said to have settled for 40, 30 and 30 per cent sharing formula respectively.

Concern is however brewing as the party Support Group in a letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Kano State, calling for urgent intervention to halt the exercise.

The letter, signed by the group’s chairman, Hon. Muhammad Yusuf Babba Dan Agundi, alleged that some unidentified individuals are planning to conduct a separate leadership poll under the guise of representing the party.

According to the group, the proposed meeting is scheduled to take place on April 20, 2026, along Murtala Muhammad Way in Kano, a development they said could pose a serious threat to peace and order.

The group explained that it became aware of the planned event through a report aired on a local radio station, which it said heightened concerns over the legitimacy and intent of the organisers.

It warned that allowing such a gathering to proceed without proper verification could lead to confusion among party members and potentially spark unrest.

The group therefore urged the police to immediately intervene by stopping the planned meeting and launching an investigation to identify those behind it.

It added that proactive action by security agencies is necessary to safeguard lives and property, as well as prevent any breakdown of law and order in Kano.
