13 Kidnapped Otukpo-Makurdi Passengers Rescued in Benue

Benue state

All 13 passengers abducted along the Makurdi–Otukpo road in Otukpo Local Government Area have been successfully rescued following a coordinated security operation.

The victims were reportedly freed in the early hours of Sunday, bringing relief to residents and commuters who had earlier raised concerns over the incident on the busy highway linking Makurdi and Otukpo.

Although details of the rescue operation remain sketchy, sources confirmed that the passengers were recovered alive after what was described as a swift response effort by security operatives.

The abduction had heightened tension along the Makurdi–Otukpo axis, a route that has witnessed recurring security challenges in recent times, including cases of kidnapping and armed attacks.

At the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement detailing the circumstances surrounding both the abduction and the rescue operation. It also remains unclear whether arrests were made or if any ransom was paid.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet, for confirmation were unsuccessful.

However, local residents expressed relief over the safe return of the victims, describing the development as a welcome breakthrough amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of the state.

Authorities are expected to provide further updates as investigations continue into the incident and those behind the abduction.
