Soludo commissions 1km Naval outpost road in Onitsha

Commends High Chief Obele for timely intervention

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has commissioned the newly completed 1-kilometre Road leading to the Nigerian Naval Outpost in the Odekpe community, Ogbaru Council of the state.

The project, which was fully funded and executed by industrialist, High Chief Anthony Ikenna Obele (Okwunze Aguata), replaces a once-dilapidated stretch that frequently stranded residents during the rainy season.

Representing the governor, Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Somtochukwu Nkem Udeze, described the intervention as a restoration of dignity, and the re-opening of economic pathways and human connection.

He noted that the project exemplifies the success of the Public-Private Community Partnership (PPCP) model, proving that shared responsibility between the state and its citizens is the fastest engine for development.

The Flag Officer Commanding, Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral SD Ibrahim, spoke to a reality many civilians rarely see, how a bad road can weaken response time, strain personnel, and complicate operations. What once stood as an obstacle has now become an asset, strengthening both mobility and morale, while also, in his words, “increasing property value, improving security, and ultimately bringing development to the host community.”

For High Chief Obele, the project was a matter of duty rather than fanfare. Reflecting on his motivation, he stated that the work was driven by the principle of putting the people of Anambra first.

This commissioning follows Obele’s recent completion of a 5-kilometre road in Ezinifite, Aguata, which was commissioned by Governor Soludo in January.

In recognition of his consistent philanthropy, His Serene Highness, High Chief Jude E. Okasili (Oduma Inyele VIII of Odekpe Ancient Kingdom), conferred the symbolic title of “Field Marshal” upon Chief Obele, celebrating his role in ending years of community isolation.
