A group, Ogoni Liberation Initiative, OLI, has chided the Federal Government of Nigeria for forgiving and reintegrating Boko Haram terrorists who have killed innocent Nigerians, soldiers, and Army generals into society.
It also stated that “whereas Ken Saro-Wiwa and other innocent environmentalists were unjustly executed for peacefully advocating for a just cause, saying, individuals like them are not enthused about current developments, having anticipated such outcomes.”
The President /Chief Executive Officer, Dr Fabeke Douglas, in a statement made available to The Guardian in Abuja, explicitly stated that the injustice perpetrated against the Ogoni people in general demands resolution to satiate our collective conscience.
According to Douglas, no superficial project can justify the resumption of oil extraction without addressing the fundamental issues in the Niger Delta and Ogoniland in particular. The only solution to this protracted problem lies in meeting the demands outlined in the Ogoni Bill of Rights, specific to Bori State.
The President/CEO argued that granting Bori State its rightful due will bring closure to this matter, while attempts to downplay the Ogoni cleanup as merely an environmental issue are consistent with tactics used to undermine other critical concerns.
“Those engaging in negotiations with the Federal Government regarding oil resumption should be reminded that without addressing the Ogoni Bill of Rights, progress will be unattainable. Failure to heed this advice may lead to more radical demands. We are watching how they want to play the game carefully.”
In a related development, Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province ISWAP have planned attacks on key locations in Abuja and Niger State, saying they intend to execute a series of coordinated operations within the FCT and its environs.
A statement by Deputy Comptroller-General, T Bomodi, identified key potential targets to include Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Kuje Custodial Centre, and Wawa Military Detention Facility in Kainji axis in Niger State, calling for an enhanced level of security in these locations.
According to the release, ISWAP operatives have already infiltrated the nation’s capital to facilitate the attacks led by Ismail Dan Hajji, identified as the leader. There is an urgent need to enhance security measures and increase patrols around critical infrastructure.
It states that they intend to release detained terrorists and inflict significant damage on aviation infrastructure, adding that an analysis of the report reveals a concerning correlation between the potential targets of NAIA in Abuja and Niger State.
“There is an urgent need to enhance security measures and patrol around the national assets, particularly the FCT Command. We call on the authorities to strengthen surveillance and protective coverage around other strategic assets within Abuja and its environs.”
