Stakeholders in Kano North Senatorial District have rejected what they described as growing external interference in the zone’s political affairs just as they reaffirmed their support for the leadership of Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin.
In a press statement signed by the Chairman of the Kano North Political Stakeholders Forum, Aliyu Abbas Gumawa Gabasawa, the group expressed concern over recent political developments, particularly the involvement of individuals they claim are not rooted in the constituency’s political structure.
The stakeholders warned against “attempts by non-indigenes of the constituency to impose or promote candidates without due regard to the will of the people,” stressing that such actions could undermine the democratic integrity of Kano North.
They noted that recent political gatherings linked to the senatorial race were “attended largely by individuals outside the immediate constituency,” a situation they said reflects a disconnect from the grassroots and local political realities.
According to the statement, such developments signal a troubling trend that could destabilize the unity and cohesion of the district if not addressed promptly by relevant stakeholders.
While rejecting what they termed undue interference, the forum emphasized that Kano North voters remain committed to determining their political future independently, based on credibility and proven performance.
The stakeholders also used the opportunity to reaffirm their confidence in Senator Barau Jibrin, describing him as “a tested, trusted, and result-oriented representative” whose leadership continues to attract support across the district.
They enjoined political actors to respect the wishes of the electorate, avoid actions capable of creating unnecessary tension, and allow the people of Kano North to make their choices freely without external influence.
