The Former Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Tijjani Mohammed Gwarzo, has declared interest to contest the Kano North Senatorial seat in the next general election.
Gwarzo, a former deputy governor and foundation member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) vowed to end the nine years uninterrupted tenure of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin at the Senate.
Gwarzo who disclosed the intention while addressing hundreds of APC supporters on Friday said he has accepted the overwhelming calls of loyalists and stakeholders’ to offer himself for service.
The soft spoken former Commissioner for water resources believed he remains the alternative candidate to represent the people of Kano North senatorial district at the National Assembly, cited his wealth of experience as council chairman, deputy governor and as Minister of state for Housing.
He said, “today I’m the most experienced person to contest the Senate seat, that would benefits my People and the State, this is because despite the fact that we are not doing anything today, still we created a vocational center training for hundred Youths and with a N5000 monthly incentives”.
He said, this initiative would be carried out on the entire 18 Local Governments of the Kano Senatorial District, with each having the Vocational training center, this he reminded would help in Curtailing problems of thuggery and other social vices.
“I served as Chairman of Gwarzo with the support of my People’s, we were able to facilitate critical human and Infrastructural development projects, rural and urban electrification and the establishment of vocational centers”.
The Former Deputy Governor, commended President Tinubu for his visionary leadership under the Renewed Hope Agenda, more specifically the establishment of Nigeria Education Loan Fund, which has open windows of opportunities for Young Nigerians.
“The President is doing good on ongoing progress on key infrastructure such as Kano-Kaduna-Abuja Highways, the AKK gas pipelines and the Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, Katsina, Maradi rail lines, adding that the projects has hold immense economic promises for the Northern Nigeria.
The former Minister noted that while serving as Minister Housing and Urban Development between 2023-2024, he contributed for the initiation of the creation Renewed Hopes Cities and Estates, the review of housing and Urban Development laws and facilitation of Presidential Intervention that benefited the Kano People
Speaking during the program, Muntari Isha Yakasai a former Commissioner and also Local Government Chairman, advised Governor Abba Yusuf to not hesitate in choosing Murtala Sule Garo as his Deputy, assuring that with Garo Kano is safe and secured.
