President Bola Tinubu has approved a new round of appointments across key education agencies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam in Plateau State, and the National Library of Nigeria.
For NECO, the President appointed Professor Modupe Adeola Adelabu as Chairman of the Governing Board, while retaining the Registrar, Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi.
In the polytechnic sub-sector, Engr. Dr Bongfa Binfa was named Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, Plateau State. He succeeds Dr Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, the pioneer Rector whose tenure ended on March 16, 2026.
The appointment, for a single term of five years, followed a competitive selection process initiated through a public advertisement in September 2025.
Dr Binfa holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and previously served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny.
He also lectured in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah.
For the NBTE, President Tinubu appointed Professor Babatunde Salako as Chairman of the Governing Board.
Earlier, on April 10, the President reappointed the Executive Secretary, Professor Idris M. Bugaje, for a second and final five-year term.
Professor Salako is a renowned researcher with extensive experience in higher education and policy leadership.
He served as Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) from 2016 to 2024, during which the institute recorded notable progress in research governance, infrastructure, and international collaborations.
Similarly, the President approved the renewal of the tenure of Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria for a final term of five years.
She was first appointed on September 2, 2021. Under her leadership, the National Library has undergone significant reforms aimed at transforming it into a technology-driven knowledge institution.
These include the development of the National Repository of Nigeria, the Newspaper and Magazine Locator, the Index and Abstract to Nigerian Newspapers, and the National Virtual Library of Nigeria.
She has also advanced efforts toward the completion of the National Library Headquarters in Abuja and initiated plans to migrate heritage collections from 34 state branches to the new facility.
The President expressed confidence that the renewed mandate would ensure continuity in ongoing reforms, the completion of the headquarters project, and the successful implementation of the institution’s 2025-2030 Strategic Plan.
