Reports indicate that fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have buried about 30 of their members following a series of airstrikes carried out by the Nigerian military in parts of northern Borno State.
A video circulating on X and shared by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama showed what was described as a mass burial of the insurgents in the Mallam Fatori axis.
According to security sources, the burials followed precision air interdiction missions conducted by the Nigerian Air Force under Operation HADIN KAI, which targeted suspected ISWAP positions around the Lake Chad region.
The strikes were reportedly carried out after intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations tracked the movement of insurgents along waterways around Kaniram Island.
Earlier reports had suggested that about 30 fighters were neutralised during the military operation.
Operation HADIN KAI remains the military’s ongoing campaign against insurgency in the North-East, where ISWAP and Boko Haram factions continue to operate around the Lake Chad basin.
