The political rift between Governor Dapo Abiodun and the current senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Gbenga Daniel, yesterday, took another dimension as police personnel stormed the senator’s residence and allegedly disrupted a planned meeting with his supporters.
The presence of the security forces with an Armoured Personnel Carrier cordoning off the residence of the former governor at the Government Reservation Area (GRA), Ijebu-Ode, especially when Daniel’s supporters were to gather for the BATOGD Community Assessment and Review rally, revealed renewed battle has been drawn between Abiodun and Daniel over the 2027 senatorial bid.
The heavy security personnel’s presence at the former governor’s residence, yesterday, allegedly scared away the BATOGD supporters – a grassroots political platform drumming support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid and Daniel’s return to the Senate in 2027.
An aide to the senator said that the security operatives allegedly cordoned off Daniel’s residence to stop the BATOGD’s group meeting, saying: ” Police stormed Obanta Club and blocked OGD’s house to stop access to the venue of the planned BATOGD Community Assessment and Review Tour in Ijebu-Ode on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.”
The programme, an initiative of Daniel under the Gateway Front Foundation, was meant to empower people in his constituency, as no fewer than 10,000 beneficiaries across the district were expected to benefit before it was disrupted.
However, distraught participants and organisers could not access the venue due to the blockade, as the development deepened the long-running battle between Abiodun and Daniel in the race to the Ogun East senatorial seat under the umbrella body of the APC.
