The Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame (LBHF) monthly tournament returns in grand style this April, with a special celebration at Agege Stadium on Saturday to honour its founder, Wale Edun, who marked his 70th birthday on April 20.
Founded in 2010, LBHF is widely regarded as Nigeria’s and Africa’s longest-running amateur boxing tournament. Established by Edun to provide a platform for young boxers to train, sharpen their skills, and gain exposure, the initiative has grown into a cornerstone of grassroots boxing development in Nigeria.
As a non-profit organisation, LBHF has consistently nurtured young talent, producing boxers who have gone on to achieve national and international success.
This month’s edition doubles as a tribute to Edun, the outgoing Minister of Finance, whose vision has helped shape the careers of numerous Nigerian fighters who transitioned into professional boxing.
The day’s action will open with Fatade Juwon squaring off against Abiodun Yusuf in the men’s 50kg category, setting the tone for what promises to be an electrifying tournament. Shortly after, Tajudeen Yekini will test his skills against Adele Faruq in the 55kg division.
The men’s 60kg class features two thrilling contests: Tajudeen Rasheed will lock horns with Ogunleye Aliazeem, while Mosuru Adedeji faces Innocent Prosper in another eagerly anticipated bout. Adding youthful energy to the card, the exhibition matches will see Princess Adeola take on Zainab Ibrahim in the women’s 28kg, and Adeseye Kalid battle Saliu Razak in the men’s 34kg.
The spotlight then shifts to the only female bout of the main card, where Oluwatoyin Amirat meets Aminashaun Raheemo in the 48kg category. In the heavier divisions, Wahab Ramadan and Lawal Opeyemi will clash in the men’s 70kg, followed by Makinde Mohamed against Ibadiaro Idris in the 75kg.
The evening will culminate in a high-stakes showdown as Lawal Mohammed and Oluwapo Oluwaseun step into the ring to contest the men’s 80kg title, bringing the curtain down on a day of fierce competition and celebration.
Over the years, LBHF has nurtured talents such as Taiwo “Esepo” Agbaje and produced fighters who have represented Nigeria with distinction.
This celebratory edition not only honours Edun’s milestone birthday but also reinforces LBHF’s enduring mission: to sustain boxing as a beacon of opportunity for young Nigerians.
