A former Chairman of the Kwara State Geographic Information Service (KwGIS), Akintade AbdulMutalib Shittu, has declared ambition for the Offa/Oyun/Ifelodun House of Representatives under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He was also confident that Nigerians will re-elect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates at the 2027 general elections.
Shittu, at the Offa Grammar School, Offa, at the weekend, boasted that he possesses the experience and understanding required to deliver effective representation at the National Assembly.
He noted that his involvement in governance, particularly as a former Special Assistant to the governor, exposed him to legislative processes and policy formulation.
“I am not new to lawmaking. I have been part of processes that produced impactful legislations in Kwara State. I understand what it takes to navigate the system effectively,” he said.
He cited his contributions to laws that established KwGIS, as well as policies on urban planning and land use to justify his eligibility.
Shittu stated that representation goes beyond occupying a seat, emphasizing the need for strategic engagement and active lobbying to attract development projects to constituents.
“You don’t go to the National Assembly to sit idly. You must engage strategically and ensure your constituency benefits from available opportunities,” he posited.
He pledged to prioritise the needs of the people across Offa, Oyun, and Ifelodun local government areas, promising inclusive and equitable development that addresses local challenges and improves livelihoods.
On the chances of the APC, Shittu commended the performance of the state government under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, specially improvements in salary payments and social investment programmes.
According to him, initiatives like the State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP), including Owo Arugbo and Owo Isowo, have strengthened the government’s support for vulnerable groups and small business owners.
He expressed confidence in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, attributing increased federal allocations to states and ongoing economic reforms to the president’s policies.
“The ingenuity of the president has led to improved federal allocations, enabling states to meet obligations like salary payments. With initiatives like NELFUND and other credit facilities, there is clear evidence of economic reform,” he said.
He maintained that the APC remains well-positioned for victory in 2027, citing growing support and recent political alignments across the country.
Party stakeholders at the event called for unity within the APC, urging aspirants and members to remain committed to party discipline.
Kasali Yusuf from Ifelodun Local Government described Shittu as a loyal party member with the character needed for effective representation, stressing that party members would rally behind whoever emerges as the APC candidate.
