…Says content is false, misleading
The Ogun State Police Command has refuted a viral video currently circulating on social media, purportedly showing armed men operating within a forest in the State.
It equally stated unequivocally that the video was false, misleading, and did not originate from the state or any part of Nigeria.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta, yesterday.
Babaseyi said that according to investigation a footage showing some people cooking in a bush was recorded in Kenya during an operation involving cattle rustlers and was captured by a General Service Unit (GSU) drone.
“Further verification indicates that the video was first uploaded online in 2022 and has since been deliberately recirculated with a false narrative to create panic and misinform the public about the security situation in Ogun State.” he said.
However, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, condemned the the video describing it as ‘unverified and deceptive content’, stressing that such was capable of causing unnecessary fear and undermining public confidence in security agencies.
Ojajuni emphasized that there was no intelligence or operational report to support the claim of any such criminal presence within forests or any part of the state.
He reassured residents that the Command remains proactive and committed to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property through intelligence-led policing, strategic deployments, and sustained operational vigilance across the state.
The CP also urged members of the public to disregard the viral video and refrain from sharing unverified information capable of inciting panic or disrupting public peace, while charging them to rely only on official communication channels for credible and accurate security updates.
The Commissioner of Police also tasked the residents to remain law-abiding and continue to support the Police with timely and credible information, warning that the spread of false information and inciting content will not be tolerated.
