The former Borno State Commissioner for Works, and the Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR), Engr. Mustapha Gubio has picked up his governorship nomination form for the forthcoming 2027 gubernatorial election in the state.
The electoral and the political moves by the ex-commissioner, clearly indicated that the State’s All Progressives Congress (APC) may not “adopt a consensus method” of selecting the governorship candidate, but could resort to the primary elections in Maiduguri, the state capital.
The Guardian also gathered on Wednesday in Maiduguri that Gubio, an Engineer, by profession, has presented his governorship aspirations to Governor Babagana Zulum at the Government House.
The gubernatorial aspirant was in company of the Chief Whip of the Senate, Mohammed Tahir Monguno, who also represents Borno North Senatorial District.
Beyond the first aspirant to pick the governorship nomination form, there are also speculations among the party’s stakeholders that more than a dozen aspirants will be obtaining their expression of interest and nomination forms ahead of next year’s general elections in the state.
Governor Zulum had severally stated at different fora that he doesn’t know who will succeed him in 2027, but God would provide the next Governor at the forthcoming polls.
Regarding the successor of Zulum that could emerge next year, some of the APC stakeholders, including traditional and religious leaders and the organized private (OPS) and it’s professionals are targeting an elected governor that could effectively “sustain and continue to maintain” the numerous executed socio-economic development projects and programmes for the people. End.
